Travel by container ship

19 07 2008

Once upon a time people travelled the world by ship. If you could afford it, you went by passenger liner; if you couldn’t afford that, you went by steamer. And everyone had their steamer trunk covered with stickers of where they had been, and full of their wardrobe good for 6 months.

Today people fly across the oceans. Or most people do. Some, however, take a different, a slower and more relaxed mode of transportation: the cargo ship – those ships that trundle containers across the oceans.

This article describes the benefits of travelling by cargo ship, the costs, and who to get in touch with.

Very informative article and blog that should help with my own travel plans. I saw Michael Palin in “Around The World In 80 Days” where he travelled into Singapore on a container ship, and it looked like fun. Thanks.
