Survivor – Layoff!

24 06 2008

Layoff survivor.

It feels like someone coming home after being on some grueling mission somewhere. Related phrases that come to mind: cancer survivor, flood survivor, Holocaust survivor, shark attack survivor. It seems that it would engender the same phrase as those who didn’t survive: “Why me?”, or maybe “Poor me!”

I haven’t ever been in this position, though I’ve been laid off twice when my companies shrunk. (Do you need to hire someone to work for the competition, which will result in the competition going under? I’m your man!) However, the thoughts here make sense for layoff survivors, anyone in a company that is making adjustments to the market, or everyone to check over and update annually.

But check out the tasks for layoff survivors, and then get busy!
