Violent crime and video games

8 07 2008

The debate rages on with statistics and data flying around like bats in a crowded cave. Into the fray comes a game programmer (though he doesn’t come right out and say so in the introductory parts of his article) with some stats of is own.

Did I say his own? Actually they are stats from the FBI over the past 30 years, with a gaming time line overlaid for comparative purposes. After all, we want to be able to see the spikes in violence when the latest GTA comes out, right?

Well, I’ll just say that this gives us something to ponder, regardless of which side of the debate you are on.
