The care and feeding of Vampires

18 08 2008

So I stole the title from that classic Harvard Business Review article on management, “The Care and Feeding of Monkeys.”

This article is on the cost of vampire devices – all those electronic thingies that continue to suck down electricity as long as they’re plugged in: microwave (does yours flash 88:88?), TV, DVR, VCR, electric toothbrush, computer, game console, etc.

Some aren’t too expensive: the toothbrush runs $1.35 annually. I can afford that. But $160 just to have a plasma screen TV sit there? Glad I don’t have one!

But you check out the chart and see what of your gizmos are costing you too much.
